Merging Eliet Dental Tech with Clinical Artistry: Making the Invisible Visible, One Smile at a Time
Description
Smile design remains one of the most sought-after topics in aesthetic dentistry.
With advances in digital technology, achieving high-level cosmetic outcomes has become more accessible, and patient expectations continue to rise. As a result, the demand for standardised, protocol-driven approaches—particularly those supported by digital tools—has grown significantly.
In my 2016 article The Smile Bible (Labline Magazine), I outlined a broad communication framework for clinicians, technicians, and patients. This new feature in the Autumn 2025 edition builds on that foundation, focusing in depth on two critical stages: the smile design consultation and photography.
Here, I present a structured workflow that emphasises digital visualisation and direct patient interaction—especially when guided by the dental technician or ceramist. To ensure consistency and predictability, smile design communication should follow a three-stage protocol: 1) assessment of the pre-operative condition, 2) evaluation of temporary restorations in situ, and 3) final review of the definitive restorations.
The following pages highlight how this framework elevates both the technical process and the patient experience, reinforcing the role of the ceramist in delivering exceptional aesthetic outcomes.
